My Opinion on Gay Marriage/Unions ...
Adultery is not illegal - but it's in the Ten Commandments. Divorce is not illegal - but it is considered as such by the Catholic Church. If neither of these oft-referenced, highly revered sources can affect the two biggest issues undermining the sanctity of marriage, how & why will banning gay marriages help or hurt "marriage" as we currently know it? "Married", in most people's minds, means committed.
Marry - A definition
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "marry" is defined as "to take as spouse."
People are people
People will argue that "gay" is a choice. Others state it is the way one is programmed before birth. If you're a heterosexual, then why do you care? You've obviously either been programmed or made your choice to be heterosexual, no one is coming to convert you. Gay people are who they are and deserve the rights to marry and divorce people just as you and I.
Health and family benefits
Some benefits gay marriages/unions could offer to gay couples are legal arrangements with regards to health insurance for spouses/children, property transfer in the event of death, and appropriate custody of children in divorces & deaths. Gay couples can obviously provide equally caring homes to adopted children, and those children should be protected from being thrown back into a foster system should the original adopting parent pass away.
If it's about "family first", then why are people trying to keep families from being formed?
